I watched the cherry blossoms in the San-no-Maru Park of Kumamoto Castle every day.

The following photo was taken in late March (March 29) when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom.
The cherry blossoms were shining white.

This year, after the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, the temperature dropped to midwinter levels, so the blossoms seemed to last longer.
After the temperature recovered, it became spring weather and the cherry blossoms began to fall.

The following video shows a series of photos of the cherry blossoms on April 7, 2025, taken approximately every hour from the time the sun begins to rise in the early morning until the sun sets.
Depending on the direction of the sun, the cherry blossoms show various appearances.

As expected in the second week of April, new leaves are beginning to show and the appearance has changed considerably from the time when they were glowing white.

Strong rain has begun to fall.  Cherry blossoms will be almost completely scattered.

It seems that this is the last time we will see cherry blossoms in Kumamoto this year.

The former residence of Hosokawa Gyobu is now covered in fresh greenery. Currently, it is closed to the public due to restoration work from the Kumamoto earthquake. I've heard it will be several more years before it reopens to the public. The following photos were taken from outside the restricted area. We can't enter the residence, but even just viewing the fresh greenery from outside will likely soothe us. For the next four years, such illuminations will be on hold.

Clear Mt. Kinpo-san and small birds

I retire at the end of March 2024. During my current position, I have been blogging and documenting my laboratory for about 20 years. From April, I will start to introduce Kumamoto City and its suburbs by writing this blog with photos and videos I took during my walks. April 1, my first day of retirement, was a beautiful sunny day. I took my grandchildren to Mt.Kinpo-san. There are parking spaces for about 20 cars near the summit. View from the summit. Clear skies. Unzen Fugendake  could be seen over the Ariake Sea.
